Probably it can exist thanks to its forestal location also nowadays. Its spread is about 12-15 m with a trench about 12 m. There you can see red soil, which justifies the existence of the one-time wooden structure, which refers to the traditional Hungarian fortifications in the X. century. Along the embankment, 3 km far away from Vasvár in southern direction, a unique and narrow pass has opened. It is accrossed by the Street of Roman Soldiers, which wasn’t roman structure instead of its name and it doesn’t suits the rural roman road-system. Its western installment corresponds probably with the western ale of the Amber- road. The first memories of the Street of Soldiers derive from 1515.The road and the fortification meet at the so called Iron Gate N 47° 1,204' E 16° 48,311' [GCVASA+Vaskapu]. In front of the gate the wooden bridge provided place to accross the pass. However, the Street of Soldiers is running straightly in eastern direction from the fortification, at the Iron Gate it has a great curve because of strategic reasons: the gate couldn’t be seen from nowhere near. The street, the fortificationa and the gate were built in one complex togehther, which were simultanenously used. Resiource: www.sulinet.hu és www.vasvar.hu |
