Tourists sights - Velem

VelemIt is one of the most famous holidayresort of the surrounding with its 345 inhabitants. Velem was mentioned firstly in 1279. One of the most well-known archeological occurence of Middle-Europe is situated above the village, on the St. Vid mountain. On the cape you can find a functioning church. Thanks to its unique climate givens it was an illustrious summer resort. Its infrastrucure and its clear air is a very useful medicinal for those, who suffer under different diseases of respiratory tracts. There works a „Creative house”, which attend the traditional local folk professions. In this house was stored the crown of Hungary between 1944 and 1945 for 3 months. In Velem is also visitable a functioning water-mill. Here is the westend startpoint of the National Bluetour.
One of the most significant feasts is the Chestnutfestival in every November.

This peak of 568m is situated on the border of Velem in Vas county, on which you can see a church often visited by catholic pilgrims. The refound ancient antiquities justify that this region was inhabited in the celtic and in the ancient roman time. Later there was built a castle, that was in the propriety of the family Németújvári. At the beginning of the XVIII. century reminds the old castle.
